{Stairs: A Combination of Utility and Aesthetics

Stairs play a crucial role in connecting different levels of a space, offering both functionality and visual appeal. Staircases are available in many styles, each with its own advantages and aesthetic possibilities. Whether you prioritise practicality or aesthetics, there’s a stair design that can meet your requirements.

{Why U-Shaped Stairs Are a Common Choice

A U-shaped staircase includes two flights that run side by side, connected by a landing that makes a half-turn. This option is commonly seen in large homes or structures with plentiful upward dimensions. Despite their impressive look, U-shaped stairs have a compact design that maximises space. The landing is a functional feature that can also enhance the staircase’s visual interest. These stairs are associated with sophistication and are popular in high-end homes.

{The Practicality of Curved Staircases

Curved stairs are known by their elegant, arching lines that embody sophistication. Curved stairs are easier to use than Spiral ones, thanks to their open design. Curved staircases are typically seen in grand homes, classic structures, or high-end hotels as a design feature. The complex construction of Curved staircases makes them more costly than other types. Despite the expense, Curved staircases create a stunning focal point that enhances any interior.

{Floating Stairs: Elevating Sleek Design

Floating stairs are known for their contemporary, minimalist appearance, with steps that appear to hover. The suspended effect is created by anchoring the treads to a wall, removing visible supports. Floating stairs are popular in sleek homes, where they contribute to an airy atmosphere. The clean design of Floating staircases allows other interior elements, like decor, to become centrepieces. Although impressive, Floating stairs must be carefully engineered to maintain stability.

{Spiral Staircases: Great for Lofts Areas

Spiral stairway designs are a compact and unique option, defined by a central pole around which the steps wind in a spiral formation. This style is perfect for compact spaces, such as outdoor areas, where a traditional staircase might not fit. This design is often constructed from materials like glass, offering innovative aesthetic opportunities. While they are compact, they can be more tricky to use, especially for those with mobility issues. However, their unique design makes them a favoured option for adding artistic flair to interiors.

{The Sophistication of Bifurcated Stairway Designs

A Bifurcated stair is defined by its symmetrical design, typically seen in mansions. These stairs have a main flight that divides into two flights at a landing, often bending in opposite directions. Bifurcated stairs are recognised for their impressive and striking design, making them ideal for grand entrances. The structure allows for a harmonious look, often decorated with decorative banisters, chandeliers, or other design elements. While they demand additional space and cost, Bifurcated staircases are a classic representation of elegance.

{Staircases: A Timeless Tradition in Design

As both a utilitarian and creative element, stairs highlight the ingenuity of building design. With options ranging from modern and modern to classic and rustic, staircases offer endless potential for customisation. Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'

Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.

Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.

The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
